Job summary

The Centre for Environmental Policy (CEP) provides a unique interface between science and technology and the economic and policy context in which it is developed and applied. Its focus is on environmental and development issues, including energy, pollution, conservation of natural resources, food and health security and poverty reduction. The Centre seeks to integrate the College's outstanding science and technology research with a leading team of engineers, natural, social and policy scientists, creating exciting interdisciplinary research programmes.

As a result, the Centre actively collaborates with UK and international governments, Research Councils UK, the European Union and other international agencies.

You will be responsible for providing efficient administrative and management support for Academic and Research staff at the Centre for Environmental Policy.

Duties and responsibilities


  • Advise Departmental Operations Manager of internal or external issues that might affect the financial and operational strategy of the Centre and provide relevant data and information.

  • Liaise with academic staff submitting proposals and provide proposal costings and related budgetary information.

  • Manage expenditure on research grants and contracts and advise Principal Investigators accordingly.

  • Ensure that all research grants are managed in accordance with sponsors terms and conditions.

  • Provide assistance to academics with research staff appointments.

Essential requirements


  • Appropriate academic qualification or equivalent vocational qualifications, or equivalent experience in a similar role.

  • Previous experience of managing research grant budgets, financial reporting and providing sound financial management advice to budget holders.

  • Knowledge of pre-award and post-award research management.

  • Proven ability to establish and maintain administrative systems to ensure efficient and effective running of department.

  • A high standard of numeracy, ability to interpret financial information and communicate it to academic and research staff.

This is a full time, open-ended position. You will be based at South Kensington Campus.

Hybrid working may be considered for this role.  Staff working in roles that are suitable for hybrid working will normally be expected to work 60% of their time onsite. The opportunity for hybrid working will be discussed at interview.
